Situation
The college chose to install a mezzanine floor to give additional floor space. By definition this would have to be made accessible to wheel chair users and clients with physical disabilities.

Since the building had not been designed with a lift in mind, there was no pit and very limited headroom available.

Equally, since most of the conversion was in removable steel work then a masonry shaft would have been undesirable. As a responsible public provider the college needed M2 compliant vertical transport and quickly!

Solution
The best solution in this situation was to utilise a disabled platform product. With the manufacturing resources of IGV, Hoistway were able to design, manufacture and install a lift that not only fitted with the needs of the client and the building but also met with Building Regulations Part M2 and could be operational in 8 weeks. The platform takes its design from a basic lift format with a hydraulic ram, car and sling. Using Hoistway's proven aluminium pre-formed structure eliminates the need to build a shaft.

Results
The lift installation was a great success and completed according to schedule. Aesthetically the structure compliments the building, reflecting the college's attention to detail and commitment to quality. Since handover the lift has run fault free and the client is very happy with the outcome.

Encompassing quiet operation and low cost maintenance with minimal running costs, the college has indeed maximised the potential of this building. Hoistway's unique product has delivered all this within budget.

We Say

“It's great to work with a customer who knows what he wants but is willing to listen to technical advice". Working together in this manner produces rapid and effective results, as demonstrated on this project. Full use of the range of options using careful colour coordination can really enhance the visual impact of a lift and this was also demonstrated to full effect. I look forward to working with the college again.
