Situation
Cliff House Trust had contacted Plant Safety Ltd after an unapproved lift contractor was employed by the Trust to install a lift so that their building would comply with the new DDA regulations.
The lift contractor in question ran into technical problems and left the project leaving the Trust with a lift that did not run and a large bill.
Hoistway Ltd were contacted through their Notified Body and were asked to advise the Trust on their best course of action.

Solution
Initially Hoistway Ltd produced a comprehensive report noting all the improvements that were required on the installation as it stood.
The decision was taken by the Trust to employ Hoistway to complete the lift works to the Trusts intended standards.
Hoistway's advice was to overhaul the existing equipment to meet the EN81 safety standards and complete the installation by using brand new purpose built parts designed and engineered by Hoistway's specialist suppliers.

Results
After only 4 weeks on site Hoistway had completed the installation and tested the lift to comply with EN81-2 regulations.
Test certificates and owner manuals were handed over to Ann Thompson, the secretary of the board of Trustees.
Cliff House in Salcombe is now fully compliant with the new DDA regulations and the lift installation fully complies with EN 81-2.

This will mean there will be no nasty letters from their insurance inspector and this episode can finally be put to bed by all at cliff house.

We Say
"It is a sad Fact that within our industry there are still companies who operate outside of the required legislation.   In many cases the resulting works are sub standard and at worst dangerous. I would strongly advise all prospective purchasers to consider carefully their suppliers credentials irrespective of cost."
